Stewart Hearn is a master of the Encalmo technique.
A Venetian glassmaking technique, that involves the joining together of two separately blown bubbles.
Stewart Hearn’s Saturn plates incorporate not just one join but two, with six different colours; colours that are carefully chosen not just for their aesthetic qualities but also their malleable properties.
The colours are selected so that they can stretch together once assembled, can slightly bleed into one another (creating even more ‘rings) and are neither too light nor too dark in the finished design.
Stewart Hearn’s signature is stamped on these stunning pieces, they epitomise his considered selection of pure and simple forms, incorporating colour as integral decoration, which combine to create desirable pieces that portray his love for the glassblowing craft and the material. They are functional but can be wall mounted and hung like the true pieces of art that they are and also come supplied with a plate stand.
‘They look superb on the wall with a light shining through them ….. you can get two plates for the price of one ….. they also look great in a window, a bit like a portable stained glass window.’
